Overview
Both cinemas in the Hawthorne/Bulimba area are
commonly owned so I’ve included them together here. The
Balmoral is the larger of the two with 6 screens and the Hawthorne has
just 3 screens. They’ve been around for a while.

- 8 out of 10
In
terms of quality, they are very good. Not only
does the Balmoral show the latest blockbusters, they
also show quite a few art-house releases that you might otherwise only see at
the Palace Centro or at the Dendy. If you’re
looking for the best variety in terms of quality and quantity, this is your
venue.
Cinema Quality & Service
- 6 out of 10
Each cinema has its own look and style which I am always a fan of. It adds
character and is different from the standard multiplex feel. But the severe
lack of leg room, old seats and concrete floors makes it in need of a face-lift.
You can’t beat the location of the Balmoral as it’s
in the heart of many great restaurants on Oxford Street. The cinema also has
its own Danesi Café which offers a main meal, movie
ticket, coffee and dessert for only $22. Like the
Southbank cinemas, you’ve got to get in early for
tickets with its low prices. You’d hate to plan a lovely evening and see it
ruined.
