THE BLUE ROOM

Level 1, 151 Baroona Rd, Rosalie Village

Please note that the following info is current as of April 2008.  The next update will be in April 2009.

Overview

The Blue Room is one of the more recent cinemas in Brisbane – it opened in early 2005.  Located right in the heart of Rosalie, it is very similar to Birch, Carroll & Coyle’s Gold Class in that there are only 2 cinemas and they hold 36 people and 24 people respectively.  The cinema is licensed however so you can drink to your heart’s content (in the rare instance that the movie is no good).

Movie Quality & Range - 7 out of 10

The cinema has really improved in this area since its inception.  They now show a mix of new releases and films which have been out for a couple of months.  They also show a few small films exclusively - you won't be able to see them at any other Brisbane cinemas.  I like the fact that they're targeting a higher class of clientele and screen smaller, independent films (that don't necessarily appeal to a wide audience).  The fact that they only have the 2 screens does limit the session times for each movie.  Sometimes, they don't quite suit me.

Cinema Quality & Service - 9 out of 10

Very little to fault here.  The cinema is located smack bang in the middle of Rosalie Village so there’s a wide variety of top-notch restaurants if you’re looking to dine.  You can try a restaurant but if you want, you can eat at the cinema.  Yep, that's right, the cinema serves a variety of meals which you can eat either in your seat or outside on the balcony (which overlooks Rosalie).  The meals cost between $6.50 and $20.50.  On Monday nights, there's a special movie & meal deal for $25.

The cinema itself is all class.  You sit on the balcony before the movie and enjoy an alcoholic drink and/or nibbles.  Then you can settle into the luxurious cinemas (although a little small) that have small tables between every second seat so you can put your plates and empty glasses.  Even the coke is served in a glass as opposed to the usual paper cups!  A perfect venue for an evening of romance or even with friends.
