Overview

As it promotes itself on its website, the El Dorado 8 is Brisbane’s largest independently owned cinema (with 8 screens).  It battles hard for business against the giant BCC Indooroopilly 16 cinema multiplex just up the road.  The Regal Twin is controlled by the same crowd and is an aging dual cinema in the heart of Graceville.

Movie Quality & Range - 6 out of 10

If you’re looking for new releases, you’ll find a fairly standard list of films at the El Dorado and Regal Twin.  It’s usually the Hollywood blockbusters with a few exceptions during the Oscar season.  To combat this, the cinema picks a few art-house films from the Palace and Dendy cinemas once they’re finished with the reels.  So if you don’t mind waiting a few weeks, you can catch some films of a higher quality.

Cinema Quality & Service - 4 out of 10

This would be one of the few cinemas left in Brisbane without stadium seating.  In other words, all the seats are on the same level, it’s just the screen that’s elevated.  I never really like this as it makes things feel cramped and you have to worry about someone tall sitting in front of you.  Then again, I’ve seen worse.

The cinema has its own car park which is a major asset considering there’s no where else in the area to park.  Nearby are a few fast-food outlets and restaurants but this cinema isn’t the best place to be going for dinner and a movie.  On the whole, it’s fairly standard.
