Overview
The Regent is one of Brisbane’s oldest cinemas and you can’t fault it for its
looks – a classic cinema if ever you saw one. There’s always a buzz around the
cinema each July when it hosts the Brisbane International Film Festival. There
are four screens in total with the biggest cinemas (number 3 and 4) being on the
upper level. Cinema 1 though is the nicest.
It may be called a Hoyts Cinema but it falls under the Birch, Carroll & Coyle
chain.

Quality & Range
- 6 out of 10
As
much as I dislike Birch, Carroll & Coyle (sorry to the owners), the
Hoyts Regent does get its fair share of great films.
All the standard blockbusters get shipped off to the Myer Centre cinema and the
cream is left with the Regent. It doesn’t always work out this way but
better than never.
Cinema Quality & Service

It
was looking tired but all four cinemas were given a refurbishment in 2003 and so
you’ll find the latest in comfortable seating. The service is pretty ordinary
and I’m continually frustrated by the lack of attendants during busy times and
the inability to buy a ticket without going to the candy bar to do so. And hey,
why are they one of the only cinemas not to put their ticket prices in full
view? There’s a good reason.
In
the middle of Queen Street Mall, there's plenty of places to go for a pre-movie
drink and you also try the Aromas’ coffee shop (offering some of the best coffee
in Brisbane) located in the foyer.

Other comments
·
Along with the other BCC
cinemas, it’s Brisbane’s most expensive candy bar. It’s a disgrace really.
·
Cost of a full-price ticket,
medium popcorn and medium coke: $26.00 (almost double that of
Southbank).
